*****
Anything YOU'd like to give away? Maybe an old bridesmaid gown??

I've met a new bloggy friend named Vashti. Vashti is a missionary in South Africa. She is married and has two adorable little boys. She works with the orphans in South Africa who are orphans because of the AIDS/HIV epidemic there. I don't know how we found each other on the internet, you know how that goes, but we've become blog buddies.

Anyway, in South Africa in order to get married, the groom has to pay a dowry for his bride, then they have the many expenses of the wedding. Vashti came up with the idea to donate wedding dresses (or bride's maid) to them. You can read her blog where she came up with the idea here. If you have an old dress to donate, contact Vashti. Before you get too excited however, be sure and check into the shipping costs.

In any event, stop by Vashti's and tell her hello. She is originally from the UK, but spent some time in the US, and even helped out during 9/11 in New York. Even if you can't support her efforts, I know she'd love some emotional support in the form of encouragement.

James 1:27 -- Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

Thanks for sharing about Vashti's ministry; that's awesome! I'll have to keep that in mind, although I'm not sure I have anymore bridesmaid's dresses in my closet....

You can put my name in the contest, but I'll be sending the subscription off to a sister, if that's not against the rules in this gift-giving time of year....

I would really love a subscription to this magazine. As for the dresses-find me a man, help me trick him into marrying me, and then I will have a dress to give away. Easy.

Thanks for the offer Kelly. I don't usually read women's magazines so you can leave my name out. My wife has a magazine phobia too and would freak out if I got one coming to the house. Believe me I tried this already; I ordered her a magazine to surprise her thinking that once she saw it, she would be ok with it. It came when I was at work and by the time I got home she had already chewed out the company and threatened them with a law suit if they ever sent her another one. Oops. And sorry again, we don't have any brides maid dresses around the house.
