Getting Gray

I'm getting some gray hairs. They stand out like a sore thumb, the contrast between them and my dark brown hair highly evident. Even the texture is different, causing the grays to poke out of my nicely coiffed hairdo. My husband on the other other hand has light brown/blondish hair. Even though he is much older than I am, you can scarcely find a gray hair in his head. Even though I'm sure they're there, the isn't enough contrast to make them noticeable.

Such is the way sin is in our lives. If we are living a life strongly in contrast to sin, when we do sin, or when we see sin, it sticks out like a sore thumb. *SIN* it screams. But when our defenses are down, there isn't enough contrast. Perhaps it's the idea that I'll only have one drink. Or one bite of that cake. Next thing we know it's more than one and your sick and ashamed of yourself.

Maybe you're assuring your self that by "friending" your old boyfriend or girlfriend on facebook (just to catch up) that nothing will happen. That casual flirting won't lead to anything else. The lunch date with that cute co-worker will be strictly professional. Suddenly things get gray.

Casting Crowns song "Slow Fade" says "It's a slow fade, when you give yourself away. It's a slow fade as black and white turn to gray." Don't let sin creep into your life turning what you should know is sin into a gray area.

Like my gray hairs, you need to pluck that sin right out of your life. If you don't, before you know it everything will be gray. Don't let sin make you dye die. Wash that sin right out of your life, with the help of Jesus.

Great comparison! Some advice, don't pluck those gray hairs. They grow back even more wiry and will stick out in even weirder ways! I was shocked when I got my first gray hair at 41. Thankfully, 3 years later, I still only have a few here and there. My hubby on the other hand, who is a little younger than me......:-)

I have gray hair and have since I was 30, Have to get it dyed.. I love this post it is such a great way to look at the gray areas of life and remembering we must nip that sin right in the bud.

I am now singing that commercial song "I'm gonna wash that gray right out of my hair"...
And yes, dear friend, I want to daily wash the sin away and renew my heart and mind in God's Word!

And oh -- I agree -- those gray hairs have a totally different texture. Mine even have the nerve to sparkle a bit! Show offs! (ugh!)

On the bright side of gray hair:
Proverbs 16:31
"Gray hair is a crown of splendor;
it is attained by a righteous life."

Ok first off, I resent the reference to grey hair. I am totally grey, not just getting grey. :) However I loved the comparison and totally understand what you are saying. Since I have been improving my life, people have started pointing out when I slip. Before that time, they just thought it was the same old me so no one bothered to comment. Now when someone points out a flaw I consider it a compliment.

Have you been reading my facebook? :) Meeting that old friend turned out to be a blessing. The guilt I held for all these years is now gone. Sometimes it is a good thing.

Please tell me how to put the u-tube video's on your blog, all I can do is link.

Hi Kelly,
A slow fade. Thinking about what that means is so profound to me. Little compromises seem to grow. Thanks for sharing this video. B

I gotta wash that sin right outta my life,oh yes I'll wash that sin right outta my life...ummm...ya..thanks. LOL! A good reminder that there is no "little" sin, and that one step in the wrong direction might land you on a slippery slope. Thanks Kelly! A very moving video too...

Cute analogy, Kelly, and so true!

I got my first gray hair at the age of 24. SO not fair. SO...I have colored my hair for years. Sad but true. And now the entire world knows. LOL

I find it fascinating that my word for the day from Dictioary.com is Grizzle (n)- streaks of graying in the hair, a fit of grumbling, a sulking mood. How timely is that? I don't want to fade, I want to go out in a blaze of light. : )

Oooh, another wonderful "ouch" moment. I love how God is continuing to speak (warn) to me on an issue in my life. There is a definite "do not touch" sign from God everywhere I go. It is so easy to do just that "one thing", yet before you know it, you're stuck in the mud of sin.

Praise God and thank you for speaking on issues like these:)

Blessings! Heaven

You are so right even innocent looking relationships can cause pain...
Don't worry about the gray... you are still young enough to wash it away!! Or just do like me and grow old gracefully...my first streak started when I was in my middle 30's. Now my grandchildren tell me it's silver... I like that description so much better than gray!!

I have convinced myself that I have no gray hairs, only really, really, really, light blond ones...

Oh, I forgot...

That statement you made inferring to the verse- "Wives, be submissive to your husbands in everything, as unto the Lord"...

I'm impressed...just sayin'

'Today's "Christian" Woman' don't have a clue.

You just keep getting cooler and cooler... WHOOOooo! Preach it, Sister.

I was 16 when I spotted that first grey hair. I'm totally white now. My husband kidded me when I started telling everyone that I was the wisest one in the group. I quoted the Bible verse...You'll know the wise by the white of their hair.' He accused me of spending endless hours hunting something redeeming about my premature white hair.

Now I love it...but in this youth oriented culture it can be like "sin" as you pointed out.

Most of all I think I value it because it reminds me of the shortness of life here on earth no matter how long we might live.

That was a wonderful analogy.

As for gray hairs, I started getting my first ones in highschool! Talk about so not fair, but my mom was gray early as well as my brothers. Needless to say, I have dyed my hair for a long time.

I'm with Joy in The Truth, "I want to daily wash the sin away and renew my heart and mind in God's Word!"

Blessings,

Another great analogy:-) I used to worry about my gray hair. Then one day I decided that I have earned every single one of them! Now I wear them as a badge of honor:-)

I'll have to keep dyeing, just need to be sure I'm not dying. You're right though. You can try to cover or color those sins all day long but sometimes it's just a matter of time before your true roots are showing through.....I just can't be plucking...I'd be bald.

P.S. It's About Time you started getting a few gray hairs!!!
I think I was in my late 20's.

There are two things I love-

1.Jesus (not the Mexican, the other guy)
2.SB's cooking

Two things I hate-

1.Gray hair
2.Thinning hair

Hi. It's about 3:AM. Alberquando JUST went to sleep. He isn't feeling well. We won't be joining you tomorrow at church. HOPEFULLY, I'll get up in time to call you.

As someone battling through the finding of his own first gray hair, I can sympathize. But I loved your analogy. It's so true about sin in our lives.

And I loved that video, too!

Kelly,

Thanks for the Brunswick Stew recipe! I'll pass it to my husband -- ha, ha!

This is one of my favorite songs.
It really makes me think!!

Innocent looks, a smile, open the door a crack and sin just flies right in.

And...BTW...I have many, many grey hairs and they Are My Crown Of Glory!!!

I just love your analogies!

I may not have any gray hairs to pluck out yet....but I have plenty of sin to stop in it's tracks. It's amazing how it sneaks up on you...

How quickly we can rationalize ourselves into the gray areas. The Casting Crowns song is such a good reminder to pay attention and be on alert for where I've drifted.

As for the gray hairs...I have too many too count and am eternally thankful for more youthful hair through better chemistry!

P.S. Happy Anniversary!! Lucky #13!

Just catching up on your posts. I've been out of town.
Great song "Slow Fade." First time I've heard it.

You could always get highlights if the gray bothers you.
