Thought for the Day

After visiting the book store today, I realized that any book that is considered an authority on a subject is called a bible...the Barbecue Bible, the Crystal Bible, the Flavor Bible, the Bartenders bible and the Juicing Bible, just to name a few. When I looked up bible in the dictionary, while the first few definitions referred to scripture (the Holy Bible), the last definition says "any book, reference work, periodical, etc., accepted as authoritative, informative, or reliable."

Yet the Holy Bible, which should be considered THE authority on the subject of God and eternal life is often not considered the authority at all.

Isn't our world strange?

There are as many opinions out there as there are people! We all think our views are "right".

I wish everyone thought of the Bible as the Holy Word of God, but they don't. Sad! I'm so glad that He has revealed Himself to me (and you!)

Love,
Sonya

Wow- your comment about reading and commenting every day while I attempt NaBloPoMo is amazing. I might get boring, repetitive or who knows what. I saw that this is connected with National Novel Writing Month and one day... well, I'll write to blog and we'll go from there. : )
You are awesome!!

Hmmmm..... It would be quite a different world if the Bible was taken for what it truly is.

Did you know that there's a Bible for Dummies book out there, too? Our culture doesn't acknowledge the authenticity of God speaking, but yet finds it "worthy" enough to have a "teaching" book on the subject.

I think I know what God means when He says "lukewarm" is worthy of "spitting out of My mouth."

So true and as far as I know it is the only book that hasn't been rewritten and it doesn't have an alternate ending. Great post today Kelly. :)

Instead of people reading the one and only Bible, they read all the other "self help bibles" thinking they are going to find what they are looking for. People don't want to read the "Holy Bible" because it might just mean they have to change the way they are living to find what they are looking for. I'm so thankful that I have my Bible that leads and guides me everyday on this journey called life. Great thought for the day Kelly.

Hi Kelly,
That IS crazy huh?
Hard to believe that many don't believe THEE bible is THEE INSPIRED WORD OF GOD.

I'm glad all of you.. BELIEVE!
And when I see those books you're referring to with the word Bible tacked to their titles... they are a total TURNOFF to me! I wouldn't pick one up, let alone buy one.Just me*

Hey girl,

I liked this post! You bring up great points for us to think about!

Okay, I usually think this when I read your blog, so today I'm going to go ahead and ask: Why don't you capitalize the word Bible when you are referring to God's Word? Is it just your preference?
The grammar geek-editor freak in me wants to know! :)

Take care!
