Informer, Snow

Informer, ??????
?????? boom, boom, down.
Informer, Snow, 1992

Watching VH1's One Hit Wonders is a guilty pleasure of mine. I love that show! Well, I've only seen it twice. Because the videos are always at least PG, I don't watch it when my kids are home, and when they're not home, I'm usually working around the house, or out myself. But the other day I was under the weather, with nothing to do but lay on the couch and watch...One Hit Wonders of the 90s! Woo!

I enjoyed each song as it played, but one of them made me laugh out loud. The song Informer was a big hit of 1992, spending seven weeks at number 1. I had to laugh as the DJs talked about how no one knew the lyrics! So when the song came on, everyone would sing, "Informer! da, da, da, da, hmmmm, hmmmm, hmmmm, a boom boom down!" You just couldn't understand it! But that didn't keep you from singing along, (well as best you could.)

I've even included the video below, so you can listen. The chorus starts at 17 seconds, see if you can figure out the words. Now we have google. I was able to look up the words, although even seeing them they didn't make complete sense. They were "Informer You know say daddy me snow me-a (gonna) blame. A licky boom-boom down." What?! Still, the song is a fan favorite.

Sometimes people say they can't understand the Bible, but they don't put as much effort into figuring it out, as they do trying to understand song lyrics. The Internet can offer interpretations of scripture, as can Bible studies, friends, and your pastor.

God states clearly in the Bible, "You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart." (Jer 29:13). It's not enough to just "hum along" with God's Word. You need to look up the lyrics so you can sing every word. What if like "Informer" you can't understand all the words, after you look them up?

The wonderful thing about our loving God, is that he doesn't expect you to understand it all. “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts." (Is 55:8-9)

Still, when you study God's Word, and seek a relationship with Him you will get a better understanding. Romans 12:2 states, "Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will."

Once you are informed about God, then you can be an informer for him. Tell the world about Jesus.

Everything about this reference is foreign to me. (Makes me wonder what I was doing in '92.) Yet, I love how you tied all these great Scriptures together! God does bless us with understanding along the road--but we do have to do our part, too.

Thanks for being the Informer today, snow....whatever.....

You are absolutely right. When we seek God, He reveals himself to us. =)

Kelly, saw a mention of your blog on fb and since I LOVE blogs I thought I'd hop over. As I guessed I might, I love your writing style! I love this seemingly unconnected reference too...I totally remember this song, and never understood those lyrics, either. The funny thing about this is, I think it is amazing how so many completely secular and modern things can be used as a lesson about Christ, forgiveness, love, worship, witnessing...it just shows that wherever someone is in their life, their choices, we can always find some common ground; some way to lead them in the right direction using an example they can understand; if only we are willing to meet them where they are...
