Adjustments

It stars out with a back ache. Next thing you know it's a pain in the neck. Finally it's a full fledged headache that Advil won't touch. Now there's no doubt about it. I need to see the chiropractor. My back's out of whack!

At the chiropractor's office he applies a little pressure here, a minor adjustment there and CRACK! I'm a new woman. But chiropractic care is a strange thing. I need to keep going even when I feel okay. By continuing to go in and get adjusted, my back stays in line - no headaches! But if I don't go in, things start moving, little by little - until here I go again! My back's out of whack!

My Christian life is just like that. It starts out with getting out of the habit of reading the bible. Next thing you know you're not praying. Finally you're faced with full fledged sin and even Aleve won't alleviate it! I need to see the Holy Spirit. My spiritual life is out of whack!

Just like the chiropractor, the Holy Spirit also applies pressure in my life. The pressure for me to make my own minor adjustments...to my schedule to allow more time for bible reading, to my priorities, to make sure I'm putting prayer before other things. Suddenly - I'm a new woman!

But just like chiropractic care, I need to continue with it. If I don't, things start moving, little by little until - here I go again! My spiritual life is out of whack!

Take a look at your spiritual posture today - it is out of whack? If so, visit the great physician and see if you can make some adjustments in your life to get BACK to God.

Psalm 119:169-176 --
May my cry come before you, O LORD; give me understanding according to your word.
May my supplication come before you; deliver me according to your promise.
May my lips overflow with praise, for you teach me your decrees.
May my tongue sing of your word, for all your commands are righteous.
May your hand be ready to help me, for I have chosen your precepts.
I long for your salvation, O LORD, and your law is my delight.
Let me live that I may praise you, and may your laws sustain me.
I have strayed like a lost sheep. Seek your servant, for I have not forgotten your commands.

p.s. Regarding Wednesday's post, I am not considering any surgeries...I just know how judgemental I have been in the past and felt convicted of that because I have had the "minor" stuff done (just started getting highlights this year.) So thought I'd share.

Don't forget Monday is my author interview with Rebecca Ingram Powell. See you then!

Improvements & Repairs

What would you say if I told you I was thinking about getting acrylic nails? Nothing too flashy, just some tips to extend the length of my nail, not too long, with a french manicure. Would you say:

a) Good for you! You go girl!
b) You should be happy with the nails the good Lord gave you. Sinner!
c) Why is she blogging about this?

Now, what if it wasn't nails. What if I told you I was going to wash that gray right out of my hair? Or perhaps put in some highlights to give me that "sun-kissed" look. "Go girl!" or "Sinner!"?

What if it was Botox I was about to get? What if I was going to "express myself" (as the Botox commercial tag line says) by rendering my forehead unable to make an expression? Do I still get a "Go Girl!" or am I crossing some line into the unacceptable?

What if I'm getting a nose job? Would it make a difference if I had a nose the size of Alfred Hitchcock...or just my not model material but not awful nose? Would one qualify me for a "Go Girl!" while the other is a "Sinner!"?

What if it was breast implants I was getting. Surely now I've fallen into the sinner category. I mean those things just sexualize women, don't they? I mean its one thing to be blessed with big breasts, but if you have small ones you should just be happy with what the good Lord gave you.

Now let's say I told you my daughter is getting braces. (She's a little young for that now, but let's pretend she's older). I'll bet you'd give me a "Go Girl." But why shouldn't we just be happy with the teeth the good Lord gave her?

Why are some improvements in the "Go Girl" category, while others we may think fall into the "Sinner" category. Or maybe you're still answering "Why is she blogging about this?" Well, I'd love to hear your opinions. This can be a hot topic among woman, so I ask that you comment politely. And if you'd like to share about any improvements you've had, feel free to comment anonymously.

As for me, I'm not really considering any of those improvements, per se. Although I have already had some of them in the past. Which ones? Only my hairdresser knows for sure! (as well as my plastic surgeon, nail tech, dermatologist and orthodontist!) *wink, wink*

Psalm 139:14 -- I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

Proverbs 31:30 -- Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.

1 Corinthians 6: 19,20 -- Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.

Summer's Over....

Today is the First Day of School in Virginia - -
(with my apologies to Sandy, Danny & the cast of Grease)
D1 = 9 yr old daughter, D2 = 4 yr old Daughter

Summer Loving - Had us a blast!
Summer Loving - it went by so fast.
Have 2 girls, they're crazy 'bout me.
Got 1 boy - well, he's my hubby.

Summer days drifting away
To, uh oh, those summer nights

Well-a, well-a, well-a, uh!
Tell me more, tell me more
We didn't go very far...Tell me more, tell me more
To Nags Head in the car.

D1 swam by me, did the pool (not a camp.)
She ran by me, got my suit damp.
Saved D2's life, she nearly drowned
when she showed off splashing around.

Summer sun, vacation begun
But, uh oh, those summer nights
Well-a, well-a, well-a, uh!
Tell me more, tell me more
We fly our new kite
Tell me more, tell me more
now they're starting to fight.

Summer screams don't mean a thing
But, uh oh, those summer nights
Tell me more, tell me more
The days start to lag
Tell me more, tell me more
(my summer sounds like a drag.)

Summers dragging, I need a hand(ah)
Hit the movies, saw Kung Fu Panda.
Saw Kit Kittridge, on the big screen
How long 'til school starts? You know what I mean.
Summer heat, for ice cream we meet
But, uh oh, those summer nights
(Tell me more, tell me more)
(How much dough did I spend?)
(Tell me more, tell me more)
(Can they go to a friends?!)

shoo-bop bop, shoo-bop bop, shoo-bop bop,
shoo-bop bop, shoo-bop bop, shoo-bop bop,
shoo-bop bop, YEH

It got colder, that's where it ended.
So I told them, they'd make new friends
at school where they'll learn 'bout vowels.
Wonder what they're doing now?

Summer dreams ripped at the seam
oh, ah! Mom's got free time now - SCREAM!!!!

(and that my friends, is a scream of joy! Wahoo!)

Holiday Fun

Happy Labor Day! In honor of Labor Day, I'm taking the day off so to speak. I have been tagged & awarded over the weekend, so I'll fill you in on that for fun. Tomorrow I have a funny back to school blog. Wednesday I'll be blogging and wanting to hear your thoughts on a controversial subject, and Friday will be my regular devotional style.

First, Runner Mom has listed my blog as the recipient of the Arte y Pico award. I'm just tickled that she chose my blog based upon creativity, design, interesting material, and contribution to the blogger community. I couldn't begin to pick 5 to give it to in return. I love all of your blogs. Several of you have recently updated your blogs with new pictures, new layout, new guest bloggers, new graduate certificates...I couldn't possible pick just 5. But if I had to pick just 1, I'd pick Edie at Rich Gifts, who's shares the beauty of her blog in free scripture tags, and cool certificates and encouragement for friends. She doesn't just make her own blog beautiful, but she shares that beauty with others for their own blogs.

Speaking of Edie , she tagged me for an Alphabet story and the A-Z of me! She shares her A-Z and asks me to do the same on my blog. I'm not tagging anyone, but if you want to play along, feel free to add the A-Z of YOU to your blog.
