Friends

(My ADHD Me, Truth 4 the Journey, Chatty Kelly and Sue J)

On Monday, my dear friend Sue J had a brunch in my honor. (This was to celebrate my status as a "published" author because of my article finally coming out in the November issue of the Proverbs 31 Woman magazine...nearly one year after I submitted it!)

Bloggy friends Truth for the Journey and My ADHD Me were also there. Patterson 5 was on the guest list, but was home with a sick little one. Two non-bloggie friends (Stacy & Gwen) were there with us as well. We wish YOU could have been there too.

I am a social gal and thrive on friendships and fellowship. God created us in his image, and I see that I am like him in this regard. God created Adam. He saw that it was not good for Adam to be alone (Genesis 2:18). So then came Eve. Throughout the bible we see the importance of relationships.

David's best friend was Jonathan. The bible shares of their close friendship in 1 Samuel 18 - 20. Jonathan loved David "as himself." (Love your neighbor as yourself.)

Even Jesus who was perfect desired fellowship with his disciples. He didn't go through his ministry alone, but had close friends. Simon was one of his closest friends, whom Jesus called "the rock I will build my church on." (Matthew 16:17-19) John was another good friend. John called himself "the disciple Jesus loved." (in John 13:23, 19:26, 20:2, 21:7 and 21:20. I picture John wearing this shirt.)

But even in a relationship with Jesus, there were troubles. Many times Jesus' disciples didn't understand what he was saying. In John 6, they say "this is hard teaching. Who can accept it?" Yet, they admit there was no where else to go, Jesus had the words of eternal life. Other times, they let Jesus down...sleeping when he asked them to pray for him before his crucifixion, and of course Simon denying Jesus three times.(Matthew 26)

I know I've let my friends down at times, yet they are still still my friends. They've stood beside me in bad times and in good. I am so thankful to have them to help me celebrate the good times this week.

So today my encouragement for you is to make a friend, be a friend, and have fun with a friend! I had fun with mine! Since you bloggy friends couldn't be there, I leave you with this quote from 3 John 1:14, "I hope to see you soon, and we will talk face to face. Peace to you. The friends here send their greetings. Greet the friends there by name."

Proverbs 17:17 -- A friend loves at all times.

Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 -- Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their work: If one falls down, his friend can help him up. But pity the man who falls and has no one to help him up!

I had a great time too. but you know i HATE having my picture taken and really wish you could have cropped me out. One more of my many issues.

I see how you treat your friends (myself included) and I personally consider it a privilege. You're one of those people that recognizes when someone needs something (from a phone call to a dinner to watching someone's kids) and you do it...without fanfare. OK, enough mush..

Great blog and congrats! I have a blog post that you may be able to use to bless other ladies. You mentioned about spending time in fellowship with friends. In my post Celebration of Motherhood it takes fellowshipping with friends a step further. Check it out and let me know what you think. Feel free to use any of the ideas to bless somebody you love.
Blessings,

RE: "Always learning" -- here's a chance for you to do just that. The Bible says "prove all things" which certainly encourages believers to subject their ideas to Biblical scrutiny. Furthermore, it is axiomatic that one should not be presenting an idea as if it were Biblical if they cannot cite a single verse that would justify teaching that idea.

You wrote: John called himself "the disciple Jesus loved."

However, the truth is there is not a single verse in scripture that would justify teaching the idea that John was the unnamed "other disciple whom Jesus loved" and yet most simply assume that this man-made tradition cannot be wrong and then interpret scripture to fit this idea. In order to sell this unbiblical idea it is claimed that John is referred to in the five passages that in fact never mention him but that rather talk only about the anonymous one whom "Jesus loved" -- but this is easily shown to be the logical fallacy called circular reasoning. This idea comes from NON-Bible sources and is imposed upon the text, when the text says nothing of the kind.

If one will heed Ps. 118:8 then the NON-BIBLE sources on which this man-made error is based will give way to the facts in scripture which prove that WHOEVER this anonymous author was he most certainly was not John.

Is it honoring to God for one to present an idea AS IF IT WERE BIBLICAL if they cannot cite a single verse that would justify teaching that idea? But those who promote the unbiblical tradition that the "other disciple whom Jesus loved" was John do just that (even though a search of the scriptures will reveal that this is a false man-made idea).

We're told, "[It is] better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man". Given this explicit statement (along with similar statements in scripture on this matter) it is clear that one should be leery of those who encourage people trust in NON-Bible sources and put their confidence in unbiblical man-made traditions. To show respect for the word of God we need to heed the Biblical admonition to "prove all things" - and not simply be repeating the ideas of men but rather looking to scripture and searching the scriptures to see if what we have read or have been told can stand up to Biblical scrutiny.

Defenders of the John tradition can choose to ignore the facts stated in the plain text of scripture if they prefer to quote the words of men who quote other men who quote other men but one thing that neither they nor their non-Bible sources cannot do is cite even a single verse that would justify this idea. No one ever has -- not those who originated this unbiblical idea and not those who repeat their error unto this day.
